Mine just WON'T PRINT BLACK INK... the ink cartridge is in, the air hole is clear, the red light is on, the cartridge is full (brand new); I've tried the cleaning function, deep cleaning, I've tried cleaning inside the printer with a cotton wool bud, and the printer thinks everything is AOK. What could be blocking it? Please someone help, it's driving me insane!!!

could b a dud cartridge you do get them i have several times so try a different one.
It may be the print head that is blocked. I don't know if your cartridge has a built in one, the one I have is where the cartridge slots into the printhead so they are both removable. If your printhead can be removd (perhaps a lever that lifts up from it?) you can then sit it in cleaning solution, just about 1/4" deep to loosen up the dried ink. then dry it out as best as possible trying not to touch where the ink comes out onto the paper. After refitting it all, do a little heavy ink usage to clear out the remaining solution. Hope this works. I have used bleach as my solution but you can buy the correct stuff.
normally somewhere in the printer properties there is an option for black and w print only .... try tat
