My ford Galaxy cut out on me on the motorway and woulod not restart. The engine turns but there is no compression. It feels like there is no fuel getting to the engine. I would appreciate any help with resolving the problem. I have half a tank of petrol. The egine is a VW 2.8 petrol

If there is no compression the most likely cause is a broken cam belt, it has caused damage to valves or and pistons.
If there is no fuel reaching engine it's very likely to be the fuel pump relay, under the dash, almost directly above accelerator pedal but really high up.
twazerk is spot on. we had exactly the same problem with our galaxy and it was the fuel relay. sometimes if we tapped it a few times it would kick in.
What on Earth are you doing with a Volkswagen engine in a Ford Galaxy? What was wrong with the 427 cubic inch V8 it came with? No wonder you can't get up the motorway.
