I recently sold 4 Xbox 360 games thru Ebay. The buyer has contacted me today to tell me that 3 of the 4 games are not working. They were working fine before despatch so what should I do?
I was going to tell him to return the games but if they are received and work on my Xbox 360, I would return them at his expense. Is this fair?

i think you will find he has the right of a full refund, providing he returns the goods, even if they work on your xbox. they might not work on his.

but what if he returns them, and they no longer work...what then?
well, its not his fault is it,they may have been damaged in the post, did you get a proof of postage,if so claim from them.

the discs were in standard dvd cases and in a jiffy bag so were well protected and he has made no mention of damage just that they dont work.

I bought a 'new' leather jacket off ebay recently.
It was in quite good condition but had a couple of tiny tears in and had some dirt on it.
I told the seller and got into a dispute with her.
She maintained that it was new which it obviously wasnt.
She maintained that it was a new jacket,In the end she refused to refund my postage and it became a stalemate, she left me awful feedback and called me a waste of space, I havent bought anything since as I am really upset what she wrote about me.
Sorry not to be any help, but ebay isnt fair Mattk x

Ive been there before, Dove!
Ebay is very flawed in that respect as buyers/sellers can leave totally unfounded comments which they cannot be forced to retract.
yes,but you can do likewise.
It's a bit tricky with games as you can't tell whether they've been damaged or not.

If the buyer has already left any feedback, don't bother because there's nothing else you can do. But in all fairness they are entitled to a refund because the games do not match the description.

If the buyer does return the games and they work then just resell them, if they don't work then try to clean them and hope they work. Otherwise you're left with 3 damaged games.

What's your eBay name?
Personally I would say they were working when posted so tough, just leave the feedback open so if they leave you bad feedback you leave it them.

Ebay wont want to know they only want your money.

Thanks guys. I'll play it by ear as I waiting for him to come back to me. A good suggestion above is to get the games back and as long as they are working simply resell them.

Norman, yes I can do likewise but I am always honest so would not even consider doing that which is why I didnt apprecaite it when it happened to me. For the record, the seller in question is no longer a registered seller with ebay as his feedback was dropping like a stone.
Just be aware that the buyer may be scamming you by selling your (working) games to someone else, returning three damaged discs that were not the ones you sold him and getting a refund. Probably quite a neat way of shifting a stock of damaged Xbox games and making a profit. Not sure if I can offer any advice other than, "be wary".
Ebay is full of scammers lately, in the past 2 weeks i`ve tried to sell a mobile phone and clearly stated UK postage and cheques or postal orders only.

3 times i`ve had Nigerians `win` the item then I get told by ebay that they are not the account holders and the sale is void etc

Then the cheeky Nigerian gits email me using the ebay and paypal logo telling me that the sale should go ahead and I should forward my paypal details

At first I thought the email was genuine until I read the first line which was...."Hi...how is your family?"

With regards to Hartley, I'd just say that you will only refund once the games have been sent back and you can verify that they are in the condition that they were dispatched in. If they work on your XBox then you can give a refund and resell.
