VillageVicar,
I spent 21 years as a soldier in the British Army, I saw many many terrible sights and during the first Gulf war as an infantryman, I was responsible for the deaths of a few Iraqi soldiers, before going to Bosnia I transfered to the Medical Corps I witnessed the killing of mothers and their babies and was unable to stop them due to the U.N mandate at that time.
However, I would never harm another person unless it was to defend either my family or myself, nor have I turned to alcohol.
