dont watch eastenders but see that steven beale is back after living in new zealand for some years, so how come he hasnt the slightest hint of a new zealand accent? or have i missed something? thanks

The producers have probably learned from the disaster which was Vicky's fake US accent. She lost that pretty darned quick didn't she?

They probably thought it best not to bother ;o)
It made me laugh when we first saw steven with Ian in that room that Ian even recognised him, after all, he looks NOTHING like the Steven who used to be in it, you'd think they'd get someone to play him that at least slightly resembles him! But then soaps do like to shuffle the characters & actors round a bit dont they,i mean look at Clare in hollyoaks!
He was 12 when he left these shores. I think once you're past a certain age you don't really take on other accents.
I don't know about that..I have known two kids of the same age leave England ~ one to Scotland and the other to the USA.

Both now sound like natives of their resident countries!
Some dad Ian is. His three kids have been replaced by total imposters who look nothing like them and he hasn't noticed.

His younger brother who lived all his life in South Africa speaks with a cockney accent, but at least his deafness has cleared up.
