Are they harmless to the fish? Obviously they aren't going to turn psycho and attack them, what i mean is do they carry any diseases or parasites which could be passed on to the fish and prove fatal? Thaks in advance :o)

to be more specific, i mean the tiny water/pond snails that must have hitched a lift into my tank on the pond weed that i put in it
I don't think so but if you have a word with the pet shop, I'm sure there's product called 'Snail Away' which gets rid of the pesty things. In the tank, the water is probably warmer than the pond so 2 become 200 pretty darned quick.

ok thanks lindy :-)
Pleased I could help..had the same problem as you a few years back, but resorted to empting the water out into buckets and adding the fish, then removed all the gravel, decorative stones etc and soaked the lot in boiling salt water!! Once the gravel was well rinsed the tank was put back to normal, using the saved water and topping it up. From then on all the weed I added was soaked in salt water and rinsed before going into the tank!! (Salt has an amazingly destructive effect on snails! Won't describe what happens but it's UGH!!) Good Luck!!
go to this link it will tell you why you can't put any other of your pets in the tank. http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/4468/ it's very good!
