spark problem gas cooker

Any ideas why I have an intermittent problem on my Parkinson Cowan Gas Cooker ignition - mains powered - good earth - switch ok - will spark for days then stops then ok again.

under the top plate the ht leads are arcing on various places where it i/they are close to metal.
the leads need replacing with a new set.the set i replaced were purchased from a gas parts supplier after i went in and ordered them, about �14 for a set. took about 10 days to arrive
p.s. the top plate is also known as the spillage tray
