Can anyone tell me how to disolve old,old double sided tape on inside kitchen door. It was used to keep a plastic double glazing sheet against the glass. Having taken off plastic, now have a very tacky edge, and can't paint over it.
Have tried white spirit, and turps but still tacky. I am a female DIY, now come unstuck !!!!
Hopeful for an answer.

hi, had the same problem. the only answer was one of those green scourer things you use for pots and pans. we tried white spirit, petrol, oven cleaner etc, it only came off with the scourer and white spirit. it was quick though, and a totally good finish, so worth a go.

Many thanks thundercrack, I wouldn't have thought of something like that. Have some in for pans so no need to rush off to buy. Will have a go, as I was getting a bit miffed at not shifting the stuff.
Ta. well appreciated.

Thanks for the answers, think it would cost me a bit more for my nail varnish remover, bit pricy for a small bottle. Have to keep it for my pink nails. Covers the painting and gardening errors.
Can't go out with gash finger nails, but Ta anyway.

have successfully used peanut butter to remove sticky marks, usually the residue from peeling off a label.

Don't think it makes much difference between crunchy and smooth!!!

Thanks to thundercrack I have got the sticky tape off a treat. I'm not sure about peanut butter, as I went off that as a kid. Yuk. and have never bought any myself. A lot of unusual things work better than the stuff in shops in tins. Great answer tho. Ta
I'd use a bit of rigid plastic as a scraper so as to avoid damageing the surface, together with white spirits

Sorry to be late with an answer, but on holiday. I have now got rid of the tape thanks to your replies. thundercrack's answer worked a treat, but will keep answers for future. The double-glaze plastic is now on back door again.
Many thanks all.
