Please, Is there any way to disable the touchpad on a laptop when using a conventional mouse?

Yes there is - on my laptop it is Fn and F7 together.

There is an icon on a hand with a pointing finger on the F7 key.

Or start - control panel - printers and other hardware - mouse - device settinngs

Highlight the touchpad, and click 'disable'

Had a look in control panel Ethel found it under mouse,

There is a box that you can tick, which disables the pad when the USB mouse is connected.
