Portaventura - El Paso Hotel
I know that vehelpfulguy has stayed here and highly recommended it in the past. I am about to book for next Summer but just wanted to be sure about the hotel restaurants. We are going half board, but one of my children is the world's fussiest eater; what sort of food can we expect?

The restaurant at the El Paso is self service.
It has a HUGE range of food, hot and cold, served in all sorts of ways. Different food most nights. Anyone could find something they lke there.
There are loads of salads and other coldfood, main course hot food (chicken, beef, lamb, steaks, stews etc), chips and other potatoes, rice and pasta, loads of fruit, cold puddings (jelly and ice cream for the kids)

In the foreground you can see the self service for the main courses (that is only about a third of the length of the self service area)
Behind, with the red tablecloth, is where they put the bread and rolls (nice varied selection)
In the far distance (with the two customers with the white tops) is the area for fruit, puddings, ice cream etc)
The three Port Aventura hotels all have other restaurants separte from the "main" restaurants. You have to pay for these. If you have a half board deal you can eat there for a discount (in any of the hotels, not just the El Paso).
You will have no problem finding something for your son to eat.

Here are my main comments:
1) The theme park stays open till midnight during the summer months. Try to go when it is open till then (check the web site). It is too hot to go in the middle of the day and evenings are best (when the day trippers have gone and queues are shorter).
2) To be honest Salou is not that nice. Full of tourist shops selling "kiss me quick hats" and loads of bars. Huge beach, but it does get very crowded.
3) You may see comments about the queues for food at the hotel. We always tried to get there as they opened and once the initial queue had gone it was fine.
4) Consider staying at the Port Aventura hotel. This is right next to the theme park and water park so no walking is involved. (I have not stayed there and have heard people say the El Paso is nicer). I think the swiming area in the El Paso is nicer.
The El Paso is about a 10 minute walk (or 1 minute "bus" ride) from theme park and water park so it is not really a problem.
5) Although I have not done it, consider booking the flights and hotel directly yourself. Some budget airlines fly into Reus (only a couple of miles from PortAventura) and many people book the hotel direct.
We went with first choice but to be honest we hardly saw a rep and the only "benefit" was the coach from the airport to hotel and back (and there are plenty of cheap taxis).
