Is there a good site where I can download movies for free and still be legal ?  I have checked out many sites that have been suggested on the board but they all want a start-up fee.  Usually around $40.  I joined one and was immediately bombarded with viruses so I cancelled my membership and only got half my money back and no movies out of the deal.  I use WinMX which is totally FREE but the downloads are very slow (even though I have DSL).  I recommend it but was looking for another one if there is one.

Thanks ...... Lonelyemerald

Why would someone let you have their work for free? I don't think downloading films without paying anything can be anything other than theft. Possibly there many be some free films that are out of copy right but that's not what you're after, right? Any sites you find will be on the edge of the law, probably based in a country without appropriate law and riddled with pop ups and spyware.

winmx isnt illegal but dl'ing coyrighted material such as movies, music etc etc is
if you ever change your mind and come to the dark side. torrentspy.com  is V good for DL's but is more on the illegal side.
Lonelyemeral, dont you just get sick of these patronising do gooders? You ask a simple question, and all you get is people saying how wrong it is to download copyrighted material.I download all the time, I know it is illegal, but I do not lose any sleep over it.Try using a program called BitTorrent, the downloads are so much faster than your usual P2P sites.

TEAK36: The question was "Is there a good site where I can download movies for free and still be legal?" Why is pointing out that downloading any copyrighted material is illegal being patronising?

Anyway, in answer to Lonelyemeral/d's question, there are currently NO sites where you can download movies (at least of the sort that you're likely to eventually see in Blockbusters) whether it's for free or otherwise. Using a P2P program such as WinMX or BitTorrent to download such material is also illegal, whether you paid for the program or not. I have seen one site that offers "Z" grade movies from around 10/20 years ago for paid download which I would assume is on the level, but generally ANY site wanting to take your money to download movies is a scam.

Oh dear Teak, I was just pointing out the irony of stealing something and then moaning because you got scammed. These sites are set up to steal from theives so there is no comeback.

Do you have to have that film now, wait a while and the local supermarket will sell legit DVD's for under 5.

LeMarchand, thanks for understanding

and when I said you I meant the general non specific person not you personally.

There is a web portal called ww.astalavista.com which has links for virtually every free download on the web !!!! Also to the person who left the answer about it being theft ....... Wasnt the idea behind the W.W.W. for everyone to be able to share things FREE !!!!!

The idea behind the internet was to provide a method for the military to communicate that would be damn near impossible to destroy.

It's all very well wanting everything for free, but would advocates of that credo be willing to work for nothing? (I notice astalavista sells some product, btw!)

Try Kazaa-Platinum dot com.
