"The teenager, who has a number of previous convictions, including carrying a blade in a public place and burglary, was reported to police by the parents of his victim.

He seized the carrier bag, which the girl had been using to carry her PE kit, and vandalised it before returning it to her.

The court heard a victim impact statement which said the girl had been very distressed by the incident but wanted to put it behind her.

Police said the girl was now too scared to walk to school and had to be driven there by her parents.

Prosecuting, Tessa Hingston told the Youth Court hearing in Swindon, Wiltshire: "There was some sort of altercation between them.

"As she tried to walk home, she felt a plastic bag being ripped from her hand. It contained her PE kit.

"He took the bag and ripped the handles from it, making it useless. He then handed the bag back to her."

Miss Hingston added that the boy had admitted to police under questioning that it was common for him and his friends to rip handles from plastic bags."

I am puzzled as to why the Daily Mail think that prosecuting this yob is a waste of money. Aren't they the ones usually advocating Zero Tolerance. Are Mail readers happy for to turn a blind eye to distressing attacks?

My we're on form today.

I know this is directed at mail readers but I'll answer anyway. (Well I do have to read the clues to do the crossword).

I suspect this kind of crime doesn't warrant going to courts and costing money cause they're council house dwelling, turkey twizzler eating, low life scum bags.

Can I have some stars please?
Bet they make lasagne from pot noodles and dairylea
i think the more worrying thing is the fact that it cost 5k.

When people are guilty and they have no defence why cant we have a very quick process where they get charged and convicted ASAP.

For example having a court sitting in major cities on a saturday and sunday morning and all the drunks how have been captured on cctv drunk and disorderly, abusing police etc get a 1000 fine and a criminal record. No letting them off because of "paperwork".
Should learn not to believe everythng you read in the Daily Mail, Gromit.
Dammit

I knew our lefty 'Don't believe everything you read kin the Daily Mail' would come back to bite us on the bum.

Dammit, dammit, dammit.
I agree don't prosecute. The only people who will get anything out of it will be the lawyers.
Its about time this lot were stopped from leaching the public of their hard earned cash over anything and everything.
I don't think The Daily Mail are arguing that it should not be prosecuted, but moreover the system should be easier and a darn sight cheaper to punish these fatherless, filthy children.

I also think the mother should be horsewhipped.

What parent would represent their own child at court allowing them to wear a tracksuit and trainers?

The boy and his wh0re mother are nothing less than dog filth and to be honest, would be no loss to society if they were both killed by their council paid 46 inch plasma TV blowing up in their faces due to a bottle of cider being spilt in to the illegally wired electrics.

The daily mail got it wrong, he wasnt prosecuted for damaging a carrier bag, but for harrassing and bullying a young girl, he is just a thug,
