I have suffered with it since I was about 12 and I am now 26. It has varied in severity over the years, but I have definately noticed a pattern, when I am anxious it affects me the most. I have always had obsessions related to catching germs, but when I was 19 yo I went off the rails a bit and was unfaithful to my partner, who I am still with. I slept with 5 people, none of whom did I use protection. When I finally saw the error of my ways I had two lots of std tests inc HIV and thankfully all came back negative. However, ever since this time I have had an absolute fear of catching HIV from the most ridiculous things. I'll add I have never done drugs. Any little thing, like when I'm out walking with the dogs and my leg gets pricked by something I immediately think its a needle. I had an op to have 4 wisdom teeth removed once and was convinced someone injected me with an infected needle. I suffered with recurring chest infections within the last 2 years and was convinced it was the dreaded disease. I have recently had a test for HIV routinely as I am pregnant and am awaiting the results. I have been torturing myself about it. I have been thinking that, what if the last test result was incorrect. I think I seriously need to get help before my baby is born!!! Does CBT work and can I ask the doc for it? TIA
