I don't mean the ones who's tax and insurance have just run out but drivers who make a habit of it. I ask this because our local paper is full of people in court with no tax and insurance or been caught driving whilst banned. So there must be thousands doing it, who are you eh?..

Norman, It is, as you say, not affordable but you shouldn't have a car if you can't afford it? I have to go without certain things to enable me to get the money in order to pay for it. I am on a reasonably low salary but I know that it is illegal for me not to have the insurance or tax so I damwell make sure I get it from somewhere. Why don't you?
If you were hit by someone, causing you long term suffereing and injuries but the other driver was not insured etc. etc. how would you feel? I must say I am absolutely horrified to think that any human being would drive around like it to be honest. Maybe I am old fashioned with old style values but if you can let me know seriously why, and can't afford it is not a reason. Even if you were on benefits, they work out more than I get, so that's no excuse!

Flip flop I like your idea of a higher fine, great but it must cover the cost of an annual tax, mot and insurance and any other costs that we the tax payer have to put up with. What is also the point of banning them when half of them are already driving whilst banned, that ones a laugh too!! I wish I was in government!!
my only regret whilst unisured is that i didn't run over a sanctimonious houlier than thou **** called flip flop - flip flop flock floff pleeease
