My pup escaped into the living room the other night and peed on my good living room carpet. As it is a big new carpet I can't replace it but I can't seem to get the smell out! There's no stain but just a smell and was wondering if anyone else had had this problem and if so how did you eliminate the smell?

See Animals and Nature section 18/7. I don't know how to get the question number for you but this was discussed. White vinegar seems to be the answer - worked for me when my dog was a pup.
Your local branch of Pets At Home will stock 'Simple Solution' products. Their 'Stain and Odor Remover' is fantastic stuff. It tackles all organic stains and odours, so it's well worth keeping some around for dealing with things like wine stains, a well as unwelcome doggy odours:

the pets at home product didn't work for us - the best ever product for this is 'petfresh' also known as 'urine off' - they have their own website but it's on ebay too. pricey compared to the others but it works 100%
