If someone can give me some advice quickly?? I'm just under 5 weeks away from giving birth and I'm having the most horrendous pains! But they keep coming and going, like I'll be in pain for an hour or so then nothing for a few more hours. The baby is moving around during the painless time, then he stops when the pains come. It's worse than Braxton Hicks, I've been having those for months (trust them to be named after a man who says they don't really hurt! Yeah right!), any advice would be much appreciated!

Please ring your maternity ward and ask them for their advice. If they think you need to go in they will tell you.
make an appointment to speak to your midwife or better still phone nhs direct and ask advice, 08454647 could be just baby laying on a nerve but best not to take any chances, and good luck hope all goes well when the time comes :-)

well I'm still at home. Pains have stopped again! Had none for about three hours! Strange. Going to try and get some sleep, if the pain comes back I'll ring th maternity ward. Thanks for the advice, I'm just one of those people who doesn't like bothering the professionals until I'm convinced it's a matter of life or death! :-)
Hi stressing :o)

Have you had anymore pains today? Maybe an idea just to give your midwife a call if they happen again during the day, she'll be able to put your mind at rest :o)

If in doubt call your maternity ward, they are used to soon to be mum's ringing unsure and the last thing they want is a pregnant woman sat at home worrying whether they should ring or not, so don't worry about ringing.

I'm exactly the same and doubt myself too much!!

Good luck with everything :o)

Firstly- congratulations!!
i was in a labour with my baby for 3 days and my pains were just like you have desribed yours. i would have them sometimes and they would be 3 minuets apart for hours then they would dissapear for hours! very strange! no pregnancy is ever how they explain it in books- its not all straight forward at all! signs to look out for is loosing your mucas plug and loosing some discharge which is in between the colour light pink to dark pink- they are signs your labour is starting, also get your midwife to check if you are dialiting!
hope this helps, good luck!
i was only in labour for 14 mins
but they were the most painful minutes of my life
hee hee lucky me
I've just had my 5th baby and the Braxton Hicks i had with this one were quite bad, i started getting them at 28 weeks by the 40th week i kept thinking i was in labour when i wasn't. When it came to the big day i didn't need any pain relief cos i was so used to strong Braxton Hicks.

well baby is still in situ! I petrified the other half on Monday night as he woke up to find me on all fours on the bed groaning like a gud'un! It stopped almost as soon as I got off my back, which was strange!
We went to see the consultant at the hospital the next day and she said as they had stopped on their own she wasn't worried. I was! Still am! It was so painful, but the baby was still moving around in between the pains, is it normal for baby to still be moving during labour or do they stay still? My 6 year old was born via a section as she was breech so i never really went into labour with her, had apins for a few hours, then she was delivered. Oh and old grape, you lucky woman, I'm praying for fast and painless, I've got such a low pain threshold I'm wetting myself at the moment! :(
