I recently had a dispute with NPower concerning a meter reading. One of their sub-contractors arrived unannounced at my home and gained access via my 12 year-old who was the only person in the house. I have complained about this because a) the meter has now been scrapped before being tested and b) I am not happy about someone gaining entry with inly my 12 year old in the house. What is the legal position ?

Did the contractor force entry or did he behave in a proper manner and was invited in by your son?

Did your son feel frightened or harrassed?

Why was your meter scrapped? Was it deemed dangerous?
I'm going back thirty years now but my gas meter used to take shillings and lasted ages 'til one day a gas service engineer knocked at the door and said "I've come to fit you a nice new meter " Oh, come in says I and quick as a wink the job was done. "There it is then" says he, "It takes 50p a time now " - DOH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would have thought that the man for his own reputation wouldn't even have attempted to enter the house when he knew the boy was only 12 and alone in the house.
