Right, i'[ve let myself go in the past year what with being preggers and all... now have my eye on getting myself back on track. I've bought myself a 'vibrating plate' to shake off any excess weight and now want to get my hair and that sorted.

I have pretty much bland straight hair which i'm fed up with and want to get it permantly 'waved'...?! does that make sense? A perm is a massive curl all over which sounds a bit too dramatic.....? And it sounds old fashioned, what do you think?

Also can anyone recommend a self taninng product? Cream or Spray whatever you've had a good experience with. Ages ago i tried Johnsons cream and made the mistake of applying it with a wooden spoon and a sainsburys carrier bag...hence the reason i havent tried it again as it was somewhat of a kerfuffle. What somethign that doesnt streak and is easy to apply!

Appreciate your help! xxx

Hello, congratulations on your baby. I know what you mean by the loose curl - I think you may be able to ask for a really loose perm but if you ring round a few hairdressers (or even better, take a photo/mag piccy in of someone who has the style) they should tell you more.

I used the St Tropez Daily Tanning Moisturiser. Gives a wonderful colour but after a while it made my skin really dry and irritable, so I'm not sure I'd reccommend for that reason. But the colour is mega. My friend uses the dove one and that always looks really nice colourwise so I'm going to give that a try next time.

Also - I don't know if you're into make up but I always find a good foundation/pressed powder and mascara really perks me up, can't go wrong!
Nat - this is something I swear by to make you glow all over! Get some of those scrubby gloves, not loofah ones as they're too harsh, but the nylon/plasticky ones that you actually wear. Every day in the shower, scrub yourself all over with a good body wash (Olay make great ones) upwards from your feet, and really put some oomph into it! (And go clockwise round your tummy as that's the way your various insidey tubes go!) Afterwards, if you can stand it, turn the shower to cold for a few moments. Next, dry yourself and moisturise all over. If you're after a fake tan, use one of the every day, slow build-up ones as they're moisturisers too. (The Garnier one is good and smells lovely!) That way you won't have any hassle like before!!!! You could have a tanning one and an ordinary one, and alternate too. Palmer's Cocoa Butter is the D's B's, smells fab and is only 3 quid or so!!

After a few days of that, your skin will not only feel good, but will look great too, and you'll feel better from the inside aswell. You'll also be stimulating your lymphatic system and circulation, which in turn will make sure your body isn't sluggish. I promise you it will make you feel great!! I always do it, and when I was in hospital after having my second, I'd remembered how awful I felt after the first, and took my gloves, body wash and moisturiser with me. That next morning I had a long shower, (with little man in his bassinet asleep in the bathroom with me!) and felt fantastic again.

If you get into that habit, it can be a great kickstart to getting control over your body again!! Good luck with everything, sweetheart xxxx

ps Just as you're back where you started, you'll start to think about having another baby.........guaranteed!!
Johnsons holiday skin body lotion x
Nat how are you getting on with Mia?

You made me laugh, why did you try and apply it with a wooden spoon?!?!?! :OD

xXx
ooh no johnsons makes you orange, Dove is much better. How much did the vibrating plate cost?

Hey! Gosh nutgoneflake =- thanks for the fab advice!! I actually have a pair of exfoliating gloves and scrub with them daily! But i'll try the tummy rub and "harsh" scrubbing that you mentioned!

As for thinking about having another baby maybe if your method of feeling back to normal takes 5 years!!!!! lol. I'm still mentally not to mentioned physically scarred from the birth!

clairey-s - I've tried JOhnsons but i went streaky, (possible due to the carrier bag attached to my wooden spoon).

girlygirl2 -Things are getting a lot easier with Mia now. Struggled at first and got a bit stressed a few times but now i'm loving it!! She just makes me laugh so much - her facial expressions and cuteness!! lol.

My carrier bag and wooden spoon technique was because i didnt want to get my hands streaky... admittedly a bloody stupid idea.... wouldnt recommend it personally....

4get - vibrating plate cost us 300 from Ebay - apparently celebs now swear by it. Madonna uses it and Bolton FC use them. Funny old things.....like going on a ride at a funfair....

Hi there - rather than go for a perm why not try curling your hair with some tongs - see if you like it first - either maybe some loose waves or some tighter curls. Its a drastic step if you don't then like it wavy. The GHD tongs are fab for this but there are also more reasonable priced ones around.

On the fake tan - I'm a massive fan (not Jordan or Michelle Heaton orange by any means but I've tried lots of them!).

Personally I would start with a slow build up - using the scrubby mitts like people recommend - I do 3 days tanning to one day exfoliation. For your back area I would suggest using one of the spray tans - Garnier do one as you dont want to be streaky on your back and you don't get it out as much as your arms/legs say so you can get away with the colour a bit more.

I also prefer using a spray on my face as you can mist it on and be a bit lighter with the colour.

For my hands (which I do last) I scrub them clean from my body application - I then mix 50% moisturiser with 50% tanning lotion (even when only using the subtle stuff). I then rub the back of each hand against each other and then fingers against each other making sure I don't get any on the palms. Last thing I do is go over my knuckles with a tissue as they (like ankles) take the colour really well.

Remember its much easier to add another application than it is to scrub off a shade of tango!

Thanks for your help ruthie. I have curled my hair previously and loved the look. But my hair goes straight sooooo quickly - hence the reason i was looking for something that will last!

I'll defo take your advice on the fake tanning. might by a spray aswell as the cream. x
definately dove body lotion with false tan in. i used to be a big st tropez fan but this you can just put a light coating on, then if looks ok, put another coat on the following night.. and just keep going,m leaving it a few days between application, ensuring you exfoliate else does come of fin blotches
18 months or two years - tops!! You'll be ready for another.......!

Hi Nat, congrats on new baby, I think that there was a new perm developed a couple of years ago which gave a look of hair that had been plaited which was really nice. Not to sure who did it though but may have been Toni and Guy. I do know that it was one of the big names in hairdressing. Can't really advise on fake tan cos olive skinned but people I work with tend to go to a salon rather than DIY though 1 girl did use Decleor which looked nice apart from her hands which she forgot to wash after application and woke up with orange palms!
I use Asda's own version of the tanning moisturiser - and its great. It doesn't streak if you just put a little on and rub it in and then wash your hands afterwards. Remembering though that the effect of the tan won't show until the following day. Re your hair, why don't you wind your hair round tongs and get a bit of a wave. Good luck!

Thanks girls - i think it will be toni and guy i go to. never been before but mum recently got her haircut there and said they were fab. I cant find any bloody pics of what look i want!

I've curled my hair with tongs before, but it was a lot of effort for one nights worth of curly hair! My hair goes almost back to normal by the morning.
