is it safe to do this? From a previous question i asked about WinMx and i was told that you download a software before you can start downloading but the files are from another member and they can get my mp3s. but does this mean they have access to my computer??? or is it that i just put the mp3 files into a different domain....
Oh yeh, and can i join even if i have no mp3's to share...or do they know when you have them... like do they have some sort of filter system thing that search your comp for mp3s...
i'm just a bit confused lol.....honest....

You only give others access to the file or files you specify. It defaults to your "my music" file, but you can change this. Some people download files into the shared area, then move them elsewhere so that nobody can download them. However, if everybody did that, there would be no more files to download. When you are sharing a file with someone you can check which other files they are sharing - if there are none then some users will stop the download. I have used Win Mx and Bear Share for years and never had any problems. The bottom line is, if you want to share other people's music collections, you have to share your own!
you are more at risk from from trojan viruses, spyware and adware if you use file sharing programs as this is often the way these things enter your system as your firewall isnt blocking your file sharing software (or you wouldnt be able to donwload). My mate recently had to have his whole computer wiped/rebooted and cleaned for �150 just becuase of a virus let in by file sharing software which spread through the whole computer. Just warning you in advance so you are ready for possible consequences.
couple of tips from me, we use it all the time, if the file size is very very small it is likely to be a virus, songs are usually betwenn 2,000 and 9,000. also we tend to browse the files of people uploading from us and if they are non sharers we cancel them! you can download a guide for using winmx to its best capacity from winmx, change the file type you want to download and type winmx and you should get a list of e books about winmx, small file sizes but not e books are
getting a bit repetative (me that is) agree with boobesque yet again.... I use winmx all the time. We don't share with anyone without files to share, and small files can be viruses. I can so far say we've had no problems unlike friends of mine who use "kazaa" or "limewire"! We installed a "spyware blaster" just incase but as far as I'm aware we've had no problems!
