I have Mozzies breeding in my water butt near the top by the lid.. Help I do I stop them breeding. I thought of getting rid of Butt. But I would like to keep it.

Pouring oil onto the water to completely cover it with a film will kill them off. They won't be able to reach the air when they come up to breathe. If you scoop water from the butt for your garden, use vegetable oil. It won't harm the plants. Maintain the film. If you've a draw-off tap - no problem.

Or you can squirt a bit of Fairy Liquid on the surface to break the surface tension, so they can't get their 'tails' in the air to breathe. Same result...different technique.

Yet another use for WD40. Spray it on the water it will stop them breathing as does washing up liquid but it will last longer.
