Vegetable-dyed rug. How can I clean it?

I have just been given a beautiful Afghan Chobi rug. It needs to be cleaned but it is vegetable-dyed. The person who gave it to me has no idea because she inherited it , loves it but it doesn't go with her decor. Lucky me!
Any advice please?
