Hi, Does anyone know what could be causing a grinding noise which occurs on my 2004 1.2 punto active please? It happens when I pull away and seems to be coming from the rear axle or suspension. Once pulled away it stops.

If you have any idea, or have experienced the same problem, please help. Thanks.

I had a similar problem a few years ago.Just got a binding/grinding noise as the clutch bit and was setting off in first. On that occasion it was the clutch release bearing.Managed to run it without problems for a while til I got it replaced
If it's coming from the rear it might be your rear brake drum is sticking a bit. This can happen if you've left your car parked for a while e.g. whilst on holiday.
Try to find out if it's def from the rear by asking someone to stand outside the car as you set off.
hi did you get the noise sorted on your punto as mine is doing the exact same thing thanks niki

Hi Nikinrobbie, yes I got the problem solved Wednesday. It turned out it was the exhaust pipe out from the back box that was rubbing on the petrol tank. I had a new mid section a couple of weeks ago from Kwik Fit and it wasn`t until TJ Vickers Fiat spotted that the exhaust was rubbing.

If you have had a new exhaust fitted that is your problem, but take it to a Fiat dealer and mention this problem and they should confirm it. Good luck
