glitzybabe, the way you say "Ma + Da" for mum + dad, it's how I used to talk in Edinburgh
Question Author
Johnlambert....y did you ask me if i was from scotland?!?
Question Author
lol johnlambert u dont get it at all do ya no offence but ma is my, nd da is the, lol
so why cant you write 'my' and 'the'? It'd make things a lot clearer.

Glad i wasnt only one asking why you were talking about ma and da lol
Question Author
lol okay lets start again and i will try and type properly okay, well the reason i didn't write my ect is because i get so used to texting it's a habit i get into and i assume everyone understands it, and yes i admit its a bad habit so sorry, and i apologise if i've offended anyone
i understand the need to shorten words to save space on a text, and the use of emoticons and abreviations etc, but ma and my are the same length, as are a few other things you have written... why?

i have to say that i asked a few people what their first impression was of someone who uses text speak in other places - and i am afraid the general consensus was that they imagined the person to be either about 13 or a bit thick....
Question Author
for cryin out loud people ive apologised, im not thick ive just passed my highers, nd im not 13!!! can you not just leave me alone now you don't know what a hard tym ive been havin so drop it please, i have apologised tons okay
what does an apology mean if you just carry on doing whatever it is you are supposedly sorry for?

anyway, if you cant talk to them, just move out
I was born in Scotland too and live by London now .John was just being friendly - what gave you away was the phrase ' your Dad has enough to think about the now' THE NOW is a phrase used by Scots, just as if you had said ' now, in a minute' we might have concluded you were Irish, that's all honey! Do a rota or give evryone a set task to do so that if it isnae done everyone knows who was responsible.
I think you were being asked where you were from because you write phonetically - I thought Ireland myself at first, but was obviously wrong!

Definitely all adults you're living with, let them sort themselves out. Problem is where is the cash coming from for food and basics? Then you might need to all get together if you're not the main bread-winner.
Question Author
Okay thankyou everyone for your answers, and thats pretty cool thinking im from ireland but i am moving to ireland next year for a little while can't wait, yeah a rota sounds like a good idea but im not sure anyone will stick to it lol
dont worry, its d oldys dat cant undastand txt tlk, lol! I used 2 come on er all d time, but its just people who wanna av a go, so i dont bover ne more. seriously there are some nice people on here, but there's so many people out to have a dig or whatever, I really have better things to do, so type how you want to my love, and you dont need to apologise either! bye forever............
Is it the case that you're at home while they're at work? If so it'd be expected that you'd do more at home. If not, a family chat is needed.
Glitzy please don't take this as me having a go at you. It's just a straighforward explanation that comes across the right way in speech but not in text. I mean you no ill-feeling.

The vast majority of ABers are not of your generation and although it is the norm to use text speak to communicate with your own generation, it is generally considered somewhat disrespectful and unacceptable to use it as a general means of communication. That's one reason people keep on commenting on your posts. The other reason is that despite being asked not to do it, especially when people say they don't understand what you are saying, you acknowledge their comments then continue to do it anyway! That will rattle cages without any doubt.

There are times and places when text speak is appropriate. I use it myself when texting and sending instant messages. But AB in my (and countless others) opinion isn't one of them. There are some people who are not bothered too much by it but there are many, many more that find it hugely irritating. It is a fact that you will always get comments from people while you still use text speak on AB. If you want to continue to use it then you must be prepared to accept that will happen. If the comments upset you then you must be willing to write your posts in full. It will never work both ways I'm afraid.
Question Author
and i would like to point out once again that i have stopped using text language :D
Apologies glitzy. I was under the impression that it had been used again on other posts. That'll teach me for reading random Qs and not looking at the date/time etc. Anyway, you've done right hon. Happy ABing! Have you been issued your bullet proof vest yet? It's standard issue to keep you safe, particularly when you venture into B&S. It should have been in the post to you as soon as you registered on here along with a warning that if you stray into certain threads without it, it's at your own risk. Lol ;-p
