Has anyone ever had a cooked bread dish? I seem to remember eating it for breakfast when I was a kid. I'm sure my mam used to call it 'taost' or 'toast', I can't quite remember! Does anybody have the recipe for this dish?

I'm sure I've a seen a Jamie Oliver recipe for this. Probably worth buying a hugely expensive cookery book in order to learn how to prepare this dish. You were obviously pretty well off, having cooked breakfasts when you were younger.
There is French Toast, I do it this way, which probably isn't the right way - lightly beat eggs (one egg per person) in a shallow dish. Season to taste. Allow two slices of bread per person. Soak bread thoroughly in egg and then fry on both sides in hot butter until golden brown..Very nice!
