What are the benefits of alloy wheels.

The downside is they are more expensive and get damaged more easily.
And more liable to be pinched uinless well secured.

I agree Zacsmaster some do look good, but do you get the cost of them back in the resale value and I've been told it will cost me extra insurance.

The aim of my question mainly was whether or not, are there any technical benefits.
I thought about alloys but there were to many negatives, however whilst researching on the net I came across "bolt on aluminium wheel trims", and liked them, I bought a set and they are great.
I think they have as much use as the polished metal disc screwed on round the petrol filler cap on an Audi TT
day bling up your car man!

harder to keep clean
they only cost extra on your insurance if you modify you car. they dont cost extra if they were factory fitted

Thanks for all the answers, now I know there are no technical benefits of fitting alloys.

I took the advice of bobski200 and looked at the bolt on aluminium wheel trims, I liked them and have bought them and I am very happy.
