DVD-Rom Problem with Compaq Presario

Hi,
The internal DVD drive on my Compaq does not work ! You place a disc in the tray and it just says Please insert disc everytime you click on it? I have tried to update the driver from the wizard on the properties page but it just says PC is already using best match but yet the PC and the drive do not talk to each other ! Model of driver is Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616E if it helps.

Any Ideas welcome

If you have creative's Disc Detector in control panel turn that on... If not then download some software that detects discs. Hope this helps you.

Thanx for your reply, I dont have disc detector in my control panel its missing. Can you be more specific of the software i need and the url to download it from ? and ill try that.

try this
Remove the hardware in device manager
refresh ... and windows should re-install

alternatively
go to the compaq site - download the driver you require .... remove the hardware ... install the driver

If it turns out that the drive is faulty .... consider an external burner ......
bulkier ... but cheaper ... and will work on your next machine as well

otherwise check on e-bay
