Absolutely stupid. I don't know what material my knobs are made from, buy they have discoloured and scratched dreadfully.

I refuse to buy new knobs. If yours have melted I don't suppose you have much choice.

I would seriously consider writing to the Belling head office asking for a refund, as it is obviously a design fault.

I'm sure Belling are aware of the weakness. They offered
to sell me afull set for 42. ( 6 in a set )
The problem is with the barrel that slots over the metal
control spindle. The barrel is far too thin, when it gets heated
it gradually splits open, rendering it useless in time.
We thought we were buying a quality product.
However reputation counts for nothing these days.
We are too peed off to complain.
But we won't let that happen again
The metal shafts for such knobs tend to come in a couple of standard dimensions. You could try asking at a local cooker repair shop for their advice on a better knob than Belling's. Take a knob along for a shaft size check.
Should have added...there are aluminium knobs available too. They won't melt!

Thanks Ethel and Heathfield for that.
I have searched on the Web previously for cooker knobs
for replacements. The problem there is,the outer shield
does not cover the hole where the spindle protrudes from.
and looks unsightly.
I like the idea of the aluminium ones, providing the
circumference overlaps the hole, they would have to be
pretty large i'm afraid.
However I will look into that.Thanks v.much.
try your local council waste tip they have loads of cookers etc if you talk nicely to the men there they will let you have a look and see if you can find some off an old cooker all it will cost you is the price of a pint
