Write aletter and say you will go to ttrading standards....ask for their returns policy as well.... a written copy
did the box have a seal? did you break the seal and did you rip any packaging?

if so, the next customer may not want it because it has been opened - say its for a gift etc.

Use kempie's link, and avoid listening to the others on here that are giving you unsound advice.

Unless the printer was faulty - and on no other grounds - you were not entitled to a refund at all.

Write a letter!!!! Demand a refund!
..this is what John Lewis has to say on their website regarding refund policy...

"We hope you will be pleased with your purchase. Should you wish to return anything bought from us, we will be happy to refund or exchange a product provided it is in fully resaleable condition. Returns should be made within a reasonable time (usually 28 days) and in original, undamaged packaging.* Please see below for exceptions to this policy.
If the product returned is not in fully resaleable condition or the packaging is damaged, we reserve the right to refuse a refund on the item, or deduct up to 20% of the original selling price from the refund amount. This does not affect your statutory rights.

Products we are unable to refund or exchange
We are unable to offer a refund or exchange on personalised, made-to measure/order or perishable goods (such as food, plants or flowers) unless they are faulty: * For reasons of hygiene, safety and copyright, we cannot refund or exchange the following products unless they are faulty: Mattresses, mattress toppers, duvets, pillows, personal grooming products, cosmetics, pierced jewellery, childrens car seats, CD, DVD, tapes or other recording media, software or videos.

...rather harsh I think considering all that was probably needed was a bit of selotape and a little white lie by your good self.....

...it's true that I do work for a consumer friendly company (that's American-isation for you)
hello henrys how are you,
can't type much cos got acrylic nails and they are freaky.
if it was the same ay they should refund just for the ake of customer service.
i would and i do.

dotty

p.s. i am always polite back to henrys
Part of what's written in that John Lewis returns policy is what I said on the previous page. If the box has been opened & they have to reduce the price of the goods for re-sale, then that's the reason for their surcharge.

If the box hadn't have been opened, then they would have treated it as either a staight forward exchange or full refund.
So it's like i said back there too- be grateful you got most of your money back.........
I also mentioned Trading Standards on the previous page, but they might very well say John Lewis are within their rights.

Whatever the outcome, you can only try henrys.
