is it the garam masala yoghurty sauce you get?
Question Author
I dont know what garam is!! the sauce i am describing is white and comes separetly in a boat. It is for the salad that comes with the chiken tikka massala. Its not a curry sauce at all!! Its cold and yoghurty but very tangy and fresh!!
I too love that - a friend of mine who runs a restaurant tells me it is just sweetened yogurt with some yellow colouring & chopped mint.
I have often made tandoori chicken at home & just stir a couple of spoons of chopped mint into a pot of natural yoghurt - easy & delicious.
If it is yellowy, orangey, it will be yoghurt mixed with garam masala. Thats a spice mix they make up. Indian restaurants vary greatly, you might find yourself, a yoghurt, mint and cucumber dip, a garam masala dip, choppped cucumber and onions.

Hi taliesin
Raita will always come with cucumber & sometimes with pomegranite.
Ask for mint yoghurt sauce, & that should be what you get. All it is is thick greek yoghurt with either fresh chopped mint or mint sauce (yes thats right) stirred into it. Add a little salt and just a small pinch of sugar, stir & it's ready.
Raita is the name for ANY yogurt supplement, and can have a whole host of ingredients. There is no one specific type.

What you are after is mint raita. To make it at home all you need to do is mix some mint sauce with the yogurt, add a pinch of salt, garlic powder, ground cumin if you have it, and black pepper. Raita is usually made thinner using water, but you don't need to water it down if you prefer.
