Facebook and Myspace have become the two most successful social networking sites on the internet. What do you think of these sites? Would you use them and how do you feel about your children using them, particularly in view of the 29,000 sex offenders banned from Myspace recently?

So long as crawlers and spiders exist, i think kids are safe enough on those sites.

Life in a vacuum sucks
It the sites are kept private, as mine is, then there is no problem whatsover with them.

Children should be aware of dangers, as they should in every situation - but there is no reason to stop young adults and children using them.

Not all sex offenders are paedophiles, and there are probably many many paedophiles who have never offended so won't be on any register.

I am more concerned about parents allowing their too young children to dress in a sexually provocative manner, especially in areas such as the seaside which are big magnets for paedophiles.

Why is acceptable to put little girls in push up bras, thongs and tshirts with slogans such as 'so many boys, so little time'.? I know of 9 and 10 year old girls that dress like this.

Teaching children how to be safe on line is a life essential, and Facebook and such like is a safe a place as any.
I'm obviously too old, as I think they're a complete waste of time! I don't have enough time to keep up with my real friends, let alone 100's of "virtual" ones.

Totally agree with Ethel about the shocking way many young girls are allowed (encouraged?) to dress.
I don't understand facebook or myspace.

I'm probably going to get shot down in flames for this (pixely speaking) but why are people so desperate to advertise their own lives? Why do you want pictures of yourself flying out to strangers everywhere? Does everyone find it that hard to make friends? Do we have a sense of privacy left?

Ok, so you can limit it to keeping in touch with family, I can go along with that. Especially if you have family abroad. I can get on board that train.

And I suppose it's useful for promoting bands or something.

But otherwise I just don't get it.

Mind you, I have recently been discussing the possibility of going to live in a cave for the rest of my life so what do I know?!
I agree with you China, I prefer to live in something called the "real world" lol
