Michael Levy made his fortune as owner of a record company, Magnet Records who had Bad Manners in their stable amongst others. He is a prominent British Jew and had many connections in the Legal profession. This is how he met the Blairs and became a long standing friend. He did a lot of fundraising for Israel and Jewish charities and that is why he became Labour's chief fundraiser and was given his peerage by Blair.
He was given his life peerage for his role as Blair's (not New Labour's) chief fundraiser.
His elevation in September 1997 came 4 months after Blair's election victory. Pre-General Election, Levy ran the Labour Leader's Office Fund (a blind trust established to finance Blair's work in opposition) that enabled Blair to run the biggest opposition leader's office in history. Although figures remain confidential, the best guess is that in just three years the Labour leader received around �2.5m in this manner before becoming Prime Minister. This type of arrangement is now banned under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.

his name is jeffrey archer whose claim to fame is that he is a lifelong pathological liar, an insider dealer on the stock market, a perjurer and a man who fraudulently conned �600,000 out of a tabloid newspaper and who was sentenced to four years imprisonment and because of the most corrupt system the world has ever known gets to keep his "status"
The "honours system" in britain is the most corrupt system in the world and should be scrapped. Ask "Lord Tebbit" or "Lord norman lamont" just two of the hundreds of the most worthless people in Britains history
