I have an old spring Pocket Balance, it has 2 scales, one reads 0-50lbs and the other 0-37 Katties, has anyone any idea what a Kattie is, other than 1.35lbs?

A katti (or kati and even catty) is a measurement used in SE Asia and China roughly equivalent to 1.3 lbs, as you yourself say. Perhaps the balance was made in the Far East?
