For Panic Button. What I meant to say was that non-smokers always had the choice to go to a smoking or non-smoking pub.

For willowman. I can easily sit on a 12 hour flight without a smoke because I don't drink before or during long haul flights.

As others have said, a pint and a smoke go together for many of us.

Perhaps we should have taken the same line as (I think) Sweden. An outright ban unless the landlord decided otherwise.

Hotels can still have smoking rooms, why couldn't this apply to pubs?

And to finish, do you know that smoking will not be baneed in the MPs bars in the House of Commons - Ba$tards.

Sorry, rant over.
I don't know that everyone would be in a 'snug smoking room'. I remember smoking carriages on the London Underground. You only went in one if you actually had to smoke. If you walked in accidentally the smell was revolting and you rushed straight out again. (A lot of smokers felt the same: just because you like the smell of one cigarette doesn't mean you want the air solid with them.) Most people went to the non-smoking carriages.

perhaps that is the way to give up
I don't smoke and never have done. However, when I go to a pub, I expect to smell smoke. It's one of those things.

Now watch the ban come into force, and with it the increase in smells from the kitchen... and those damn midges that try to get into my pint! Well, they're more evident in the chain bars anyway.

I read a couple of the posts here and thought "oh god". There's a couple of people here that I imagine go out on an evening wearing Jack Dee's "You smoke, I choke" badge ha ha!
i hope you non smokers are aware if the ban stops people smoking the revinue for the government goes down and your taxes aswell as mine will rocket skywards.they have done it all the wronge way dictating to people is wronge{freedom}as for youngmafbogs coments tough is not a word to have said to my great grandad who fought both world wars was gased and came home.he smoked woodbines from the age of twelve and died at 94{natural}he would turn in his grave if he new about this.he fought for freedom andto get rid of dictators for what.SO IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN}we need smoking and no smoking pubs, clubs, and restraunts.would that not have been better.
