Really, really daft question here. I'm thinking of buying an iPod in the future but if I downloaded iTunes tonight would I have any problems connecting the two or would I have to use the iTunes that comes with the iPod?

Thank you!

No, you'd be fine.

In fact, to save the environment (read: to save costs), some iPods now don't come with CDs anyway -- you're told just to download from Apple.

iTunes is a great music organiser (in my opinion the best), and not just for iPods.

Thank you very much!
My experience of having iTunes before having an iPod was that I had to use the version that was on the disc (which was actually an earlier version than I had been using) then upgrading that once it was all sorted via the web. A bit silly, but not hard to do, and it retains all your data, so no need to worry on that front.
Waldo: how long ago was that? I think that may be something unique to what happened to you... you should be fine with the latest version now.
Oh, it was a few years back and obviously since then I just upgrade as and when, but the point is that it wasn't exactly a painful experience anyway.
