I am reliably informed that Snails and Slugs have a homing ability. I have been re-housing the afore mentioned from my garden to some nearby wasteland (about 5 metres away). Is this sufficient distance or will they return. There seems to be a lot of snails this year, or it could be the same ones returning.

So does anyone know how far to banish a snail?

Hi Gromit,
I read this in Gardening Which, A woman went out at night, picked loads of snails, and painted their shells, then took the about a quarter of a mile away and dumped them, over the course of the next two monthe, taking into account deaths by birds, animals etc, she started finding the painted snails back in her garden.

She reckoned about 25% made their way back.
I collect them and re-home them where the thrushes can get at them. They don't come back.

Thanks Lonnie and Bellringer,

The little *******! No wonder I am inundated, 5 metres must be just a stroll in the park to 'em.
