Hi all! Just a quick question. I bought an mp3 player from Argos on Friday. Gavem it to my friend as a gift. He tried it, turned it off after 5 minutes, and turned it back on. The screen went funny, and the thing just died. Can't turn it back on.

Now, I'm going to bring it back to Argos with the receipt at lunchtime. What are my rights? I don't want to have it repaired, I want a replcement or a refund. Do they have to do that or can they insist it be sent for repair? Many thanks in advance, as I would like to know eactly what I'm entitled to before I make a fool of myself!

You can ask for a refund and they must give you one (and in my experience Argos are good like that).

The item is not "fit for purpose" under the Sales of Goods Act.

If you want, you can exchange it.

Well, just a wee update. They took it back, no question asked and gave me the money back! Yipee! :O)
