When I switch on my hot water, I am getting a scarily loud banging noise coming from the loft. Then gurgling sounds in the boiler situated in the kitchen. Scared me so much I have not switched the water on since. Hoping to get plumber out this week, but in mean time. Does anyone know if this is a serious problem?

Hi Trinny If you still have probs ? If you have a hot water cylinder then yes you have got a problem with central heating expansion/water top up tank in the loft it is the smaller of the 2 up there I'm sure If you are able to go up there the ball valve will have stuck in the closed position and the tank is dry with caution you may be able to gently move the ball arm down and up a few times and allow water into the tank you also would be wise to have someone stand by the mains stop tap just in case things go wrong make sure of course the stop tap is free beforehand WD40 all valves to keep free HTH Tez
