my car stinks!!

just recently my inside of my car has started stinking! its like a dead animal or something. its just terrible.
now i have read the other posts about AC systems. its not that cos my car dont have one. plus i havent had a spill in there. the bad thing is that its normally really messy in my car and have recently cleaned it out.....so why the smell now!!!!!
also i kind of suspect vandals, cos my wing mirror got booted off the day the smell started...but how could vandals make the inside of a car smell...I'm vexed :(

Maybe something nasty has been stuffed into the heater air intake( usually a grill in front of the windscreen)
