My daughter is 19 years old and both of us want my name to be added to her birth certificate but her mother won't, we are in no doubt i am the father but we were young when we had her and the grandparents told her mother to leave me off the BC. We have never been married. Does anybody know the legalities and rights i have. Thanks.

I could be difficult without the mother's co-operation, but a cour could order it.

Thanks Ethel, you got it right with the difficult bit, do you know my daughters mother then?
No, seriously i would hope she will see sense but if not i can try this route.
FYI my daughter has just given birth so i not only want to be the legal dad but also 'grandad'.
Cheers.
Enjoy your family without getting hooked up on this - there are many fathers on birth certificates who are never Dad and Grandad.

It 's the relationship that matters. Good luck.
good luck, hopefully because she is 19 if her mother doesnt agree something can still be done, as long as she knows who her father is i dont think it matters
