Sounds like a conflict with your firewall.

Which firewall are you using?

Ethel, I'm using Windows Firewall, but can I add that my problem has only recently started, I have been running Moz Thunderbird for about a week with no trouble.WR.
Hi Ron:

2 apologies:

Firstly, I'm sorry that I didn't respond to your earlier post, addressed to me. (I've been working away from home and I've only just got back).

Secondly, I regret that I haven't got a clue as to the cause of your problem.

However, I can suggest that you might like to ask your question in this forum:

(Just click 'ask new question', at the top of the page).

I hope you find a solution.

Hi Chris, welcome back. Thanks for the link, however on clicking on it,it would appear that there are people with worse probs re,Thunderbird & also I managed to look up back copies of A/B,& found troubles with the programme,so I have decided to leave it alone for the time being.Ron.
May be of no help, but here goes...Sometimes, with Windows software, when an application is launched it can immediately disappear. I have seen this with Outlook. Upon further inspection, using Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del keys simultaneously) you can see that the application is actually running (sort by name and look for something called Thunderbird or similar). If the task is present in the list, then it is running just fine, just not much use without the interface. This can be caused by a number of things, the application startup/******** properties being corrupt.

Thanks Paul,I have printed your comments in case I Need the info at a later date, as I said earlier, I shall not bother at the moment. I have reverted to Windows Live Messenger for my e-mails,it seems to be satisfactory for me.Cheers,Ron.
No probs.

By the way, that asterisked out bit of text in my previous post must have been automatically added by the bots, the word is meant to say shutdown (in case this word is asterisked again, it is two four letter words combined to give an eight letter word, the first word being the opposite of open, the second word the opposite of up :) )
Question Author
Thanks again Paul. I was always of the opinion that asterisks were in place of swear words(LOL).Ron.
