Letting my cats outside

My 2 cats stayed at my parents house while I was away from holiday for 2 weeks. They have now been back at home with me for 7 days and it is like they have never been away (they are being extra fussy as I think they are happy to be back home again).
Anyway my question is how long should I keep them indoors before I let them back outside. They have been indoors for the last 7 days and keep pestering me and my other half to let them out. I have read somewhere you should keep cats indoors for about 2 weeks to let them settle but they are desperate to get out...Any answers would be great. Thanks.

I don't quite understand why you are keeping them indoors? If they are your cats and they are used to where you live, they won't wander off, it is their home. I used to regularly look after my mums cat and he used to be outside after a couple of days at MY house, and when mum took him back home she never kept him in, he knew where he was.
You only need to keep them inside for a few weeks if you move house, this helps them to settle and stops then trying to go back to the old house.

Just going on holiday it is fine to let them straight out when you get back. My brother looks after mine when I go away - he is not allowed out at my brothers in case he gets lost but as soon as he comes home he is straight out the door!
my next door neighbours take their cat to their parents when they go there and take the cat with them, when they get home they always let it out straight away and its like it hasn't been away, its its usual self straight away.
