For Spain (and anywhere in the EU) your passport just needs to be valid.
As long as your back in U.K before it runs out i can't see why you should be left behind, it is as it says 'expires 10th October 2007'
When you get back from your Spanish holiday why don't you renew your passport? You can do this up to 9 (yes, NINE) months before the expiry date. Any remaining months are credited to your new passport. Then your 'partner' (I presume you mean boyfriend and not a business partner - which I'm sorry I always think of when I see the word) can book a surprise holiday anytime he likes!
