Don't know if it still is, but up to about 10 years ago the largest employer in the world used to be Indian State Railways.
This soulds like a much quoted "fact" that the NHS is the 3rd largest employer in the world after the Indian Railways and the Chinese Red Army.

Wikipedia claims this is the case (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Health_S ervice) but I'm not that convinced it's quite fair to count the red army , The NHS themselves claim to be the largest employer in Europe at 1.3 million people. Walmart is bigger now.

thanks for your answers guys.It looks like the NHS added to other ''government'' departments might push our government into a top place as an employer.[and growing too!!]
Surley one of the all time major employers of the day have to go to good 'ole TESCO. Love um' or hate um' what would we do without um'? You know I am sure one day we will all be TESCO robots, and if you dare try and escape, Terry Leahy will come looking for ya, or pay someone else too!

Picture this, Tesco has taken over the world, even the grass has grown the Tesco logo. You walk, drive or do what ever you do to commute to work, but their watching, the cctv cameras are now all owened by Tesco, they can see you, they follow your every movement. You go to your current employment for the last time, cos there gonna get ya. Just as your about to enter the building where you work the cctv cameras turn into heat seeking missiles filled with Tesco policys, it's amied at your head, oh no, its to late there is no escape, Tesco has got ya, not even Jack Bauer can escape, 24 is no more a series it is , TESCOS!!!!

you obviously have Tescoitis.I have seen it in others and it can be fatal.Sit down and have a nice cup of tea and a piece of cake. You can recover from this with lots of care and attention, but you will never be fully cured.I wish you well.
