I was wondering what fellow members of the AB gay community thought of this chap's measures?

My own view is that I can more than understand wanting to exclude homophobes and wanting an atomosphere in which people can happily express physical affection for one another, but outright banning everyone except homosexual (and presumably bisexual) men just seems a tad drastic to me (especially considering plenty of heterosexuals accompany gay companions as they genuinely enjoy such places).

Although I accept it's more expensive, employing more security (or perhaps just making existing security more active) seems far more reasonable to me.

Hi Krom,
I read that story, the problem here, I think, is that if true, it will promote more anti Gay feelings than there already is.

Thing is also, they are a minority group, so its allowed.
I read this story the other day and I think the measures employed are going to be wholly counter-productive. There's also the issue of proof! How exactly will the owner ascertain who is and who isn't gay (no...don't say it...I know what you're thinking).

Simply banning undesirables, hen parties and stag parties would be understandable. They already do this in some bars in Dublin to keep out trouble-makers. A blanket ban on straights, in my opinion, isn't the right solution.
This guy appears to be phobic. Not sure if his words were taken out of context for editing purposes but the use of the phrases 'Those lesbians and heterosexuals' compared to 'My homosexuals' is rather telling ;o)

I agree with Lonnie & sp. This ban will only serve to make matters worse for him & his patrons. I would also like to know how he will operate his policy. Will forms need to be filled in..will a card be issued to ascertain your sexual orientation?

Not at all. Just a compulsory kiss-o-gram with a buff security guard at the entrance.

Come to think of it, I wonder if his staff on the ground has been purged of heterosexuality too...
I think this is taking measures to an extreme and I also think it may promote more anti gay sentiment (it often doesn't take much) however I kind of agree with it as well.

I am hetrosexual but - and sorry if this sounds like the old cliche! - work with and have many friends who are gay. I have sometimes gone to gay clubs etc.. with them but I am aware that for many people being out and openly gay is difficult and that they may spend a lot of their life having or pretend about their feelings and their nature. Wish it wasn't the case but sadly I think in many areas it still is.

In such cases going to a gay club or a place weher they can be comfortable with who they are may be a great relief and release for them. Even an escape. Having a load of hetrosexuals watching or laughing at them can't be very nice, especially if they have to combat that everyday and, for whatever reason, not be able to question it. For such people a gay club could be a kind of haven where they can escape a majority hetrosexual world for a while and, as such, I sympathise with someone trying to help them to do this.
