I've heard that drinking hot water and lemon is really good for you. Does it have to be fresh lemon or can it just be a couple of drops of Jif lemon?

I use Jif legal, It does the same job. Use it to suit your taste.
Actually, most bottled or other containerized lemon juices are reconstituted lemon juice. It's made by adding lemon oil to lemon juice concentrate from which most of the water has been taken. To keep the taste standardized, more or less of the lemon oil must be added. In addition, since much of the acidicity of the original lemon has been "watered down", most bottled types contain preservatives to maintain color and freshness, which usually include sodium bisulfate and sodium benzoate.
Admittedly, I, being from the U.S., am not familiar with the Jif brand. Fresh lemons have none of these of course... If you're interested and can find a copy, read Dr. A.F. Beddoe's book Biological Ionization in Human Nutrition concerning the health benefits of hot water and lemon juice.
Fresh lemon is best but really it can be any. Basically the honey and the lemon line the throat and protects it more. I tend to drink it before and after performing or going to rehearsals. It's ace.

Jif doesn't taste as nice as fresh in
You don't have to cut open the lemon and then waste it, you can stick a fork in it an squeeze out what you need then put in back in the fridge and keep doing that until it needs replaced.
