I am usually very careful but to cut a long story short, I sliced some crusty bread with the same knife I had used to cut up raw chicken. By the time I realised what I'd done my hubby had ate the bread, now I'm terrified in case he gets ill. Anyone else had experience of this?

Raw chicken doesn't automatically have salmonella (or e-coli or whatever) You could probably eat the chicken completely raw and be absolutely fine, its just a precautionary thing with raw poultry as its susceptible to certain bacteria. More than likely your husband will be fine - if he does get ill - deny all knowledge - they'll never trace it back to your breadknife!
Wash the breadknife to remove any evidence , ( just in case )

Thanks for the replies, feel a bit better after reading what you said miss-taken. Hopefully he'll be ok but if not then I'll confess.
Just make sure his life insurance policy and his last will and testament are all in order.....then go off to the travel agents and book a 6 month cruise. The police will never find you !!!
