I found this out a while ago and no-one else I know has it, if you twist your tongue over in your mouth (as much as you can), clamp it in place with your teeth, then run your fingernail along the tip of your tongue. It feels 'backwards' as though when you run your finger left to right, you FEEL it right to left. Why?

29 .... is that OK do you think (mental age of 12) ;-) did it work for you Docklands? Admittedly I did discover it when I was Actually 12, but I've just always wondered why? :-)
It didn't work for me I'm afraid! Felt a bit strange though. Could you tell me more about your commando activities please?

hehehehe! :-D I conducted an experiment into dressing/time = getting to work on time, and discovered that certain items of clothing, when ommitted from your daily routine, can actually help you achieve new puncutality targets, particularly if there is an attendance bonus at stake, and you have a gambling problem......actually none of the above is true, go commando because knickers are unnecessary, I don't even get a punctuality bonus, and I'm poor because I spend too much money on getting inebriated at the weekends!
so, you're not wearing any at the moment i take it?

My tongue doesn't seem to do that...as for the answer, I don't really know. I expect it has something to do with what your brain gets used to being the left / right side of your tongue, and also the way the brain tells a finger to move "left" or "right". I suppose it must feel like driving a car where the steering has been fixed so that turning the wheel in one direction causes the car to move in the other...it must be weird!
Have you ever riden a bike and crossed you hands over. Left hand where right hand should be... Therin lies the answer, trying to confuse your brain by turning things around.... By the way, when i tried swapping my hands over on my bike when i was 12, i fell off. Not to be recommended unless you are cycling on grass perhaps...

Mel & Squirrel I do believe that is the answer, simple brain trickery. Still odd though how it only seems to be me that experiences it!
There is a similar thing (and a bit easier to do than twisting your tongue). If you cross your middle and index fingers (I have to force mine to get a decent-sized 'V' at the end) then touch your nose with the 'V', it feels as though you have two noses! This effect does not last for very long, however. Again, the explanation is what your brain expects and is used to.
OHMYGOSH that is so wierd!!
