.... pick up their food from the bowl and drop it onto the floor/carpet before they then actually eat it? Or is this just my cat?

By pick up their food I mean with their mouth before putting it on the floor then actually eating it!
Could depend on what type of dish...plate...ect you are giving the food on .My cats prefer a saucer, but if they are having cooked chicken will take it of the saucer and growl before eating it [I think they are killing it] cats do have these funny habits thats what makes them so adorable i think.
Yeah, my cat does this too! Well, my mums cat that is. I always found it funny.
My dog does this sometimes aswell, don't know if it's normal though! I think she is just fussy & likes to pick out her fav bits first.
my mums cat does this. he bothers you when you are eating. wanting whatever you have got. when you feed it something he will only eat it once he has draggged it onto the floor. bizzarre
He's not a cat but as small as one.My Jack russell does this.He will carry it quite a way from his bowl then eat it.
Max my GSD sometimes does it, especially if he thinks he's being ignored. He'll bring a mouthful of biscuit from the kitchen where he 's fed & lie at the side of my chair to eat it then fetch some more.

My Westie does this all the time.
She could save herself a lot of bother by just eating her food from her bowl but no, she would rather trail back and forth with one piece of food in her mouth.
cats do it because if the dish is too small their whiskers brush on the sides of the dish, and the cat may feel claustrophobic, so it will drop the food onto the floor where it has more space.
My cats have wide bowls so as not to interfere with their whiskers but they still drop food on the floor to eat it! One of them also growls at her food so I have to agree that she thinks she's killing it. Either that or it's a sort of "hands off" warning to the other cat.
My cat loves tuna, the Value stuff from Tesco, he picks some up and then drops it in his biscuits, then stirs it with his paw, then eats it....very strrrrrrange.
Mine does it sometimes but he uses his paw rather his mouth - he pulls some of his biscuits on to the floor before eating them. He also used to put his paw in his water bowl and pull the bowl towards him while drinking. I'd come downstairs in the morning and find the bowl half way across the kitchen floor. He's stopped doing that now as he now refuses to drink out of his bowl and will only drink from a pint glass by the side of my bed!

Mad mog!
haha annavc, is your cat related to mine? Though both my cats tend to eat their meat straight out of the bowl, if I give them a treat of ham or chicken, they take this out and eat it off the floor. One of my cats will also scoop out his biscuits with his paw and eat the off the floor too, although he doesnt always do this....I think he just likes to be awkward! He too will put his paw in a glass of water for a drink, or lick at the kitchen sink after Ive run the tap for a drink! Cats are definately their own person with all their strange ways!
My cats do it aswell ,they eat the bits they want then leave the rest for mum to pick up and clean, my female cat when your eating will sit at your feet and tap your leg as to say weres mine then , my male one will sit on the side of the chair and meaow at you untill you give him some , especially yogurt, crisps, cheese, bread ,chicken, but i wouldnt change them mad cats that they are .
