Hi, I want to look into getting pet insurance for my dog. But i really have no idea what to look for!
Any advice that anyone has would be appreciated!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to which companies are the best. what type of cover is best?
Thanks!

We found Argos seemed like the best deal. But we have yet to claim. I hope we never have to.
PetPlan are good but expensive. E & L are crap and don't like paying out. Decide on what you want covered, and check out how long/for what conditions they will pay out for. Some cover a condition for one year, or for up to a certain amount others cover for the whole time the condition needs treating. Tesco and Sainsbury do them, also Direct Line. Also Saga (or is it Help the Aged) if you are of a 'mature' age!

Some cover things like recovery fees if the pet is lost, cancellation of holiday fees if the pet is ill, replacement value, just get the level of cover you need rather than pay for what you will probably never use.

Thanks guys.
Thanks for that link lankeela, i've had a quick look & i like the look of the marks & spencers one, about 17 a month for life long cover.
Does anyone else use marks & spencer?
if you go with marks and spencers get the no excess policy, it is only about another pound a month but it means you can take your dog to the vets for anything and you get all your money back without having to pay the first 50 or whatever. I'm guessing that they still do it, they did last year.
We have had Sainsbury's pet care for our last two dogs and they were excellent on all occassions. We had to unfortunately put in two massive claims recently, sadly only to lose our boy in the end from something completely out of the blue. They were quick, efficient and it helped to ease a sad situation. My insurance policy did not go up either, in fact it was reduced the second year! Hope this helps.
PS: Sainsbury was only 9 per month, if you add that up over the months with M&S?

Thanks for all your help!
Cheers eyeshade, i just had a look at sainsburys & they quoted 13 a month so not much difference & it was with 60 excess where m&s do 0 excess & it's a life long cover.
Is life long cover the best option?
Thanks again for all your advice, really appreciate it.

& so sorry to hear of your loss eyeshade!!!

This is my first dog & i never realised how attached i would be to her!
Hi fayelc123!

No kidding on the attachment thing...Jack is my first dog, had him 2 years now, and he's like my little soulmate!

He is a medium-small Border Collie, and he is insured with M & S for about 10.50/month. We took the "no excess" option, it was only 50p more, and although we've fortunately never had to claim, I'd much rather have it than not. The call centre staff seem friendly and efficient, so i would hope they would deal with a claim in the same way.

In terms of cover, I think it's all been said. M & S are quite comprehensive, and seem to cover the basics.
I also have heard a heap of horror stories about E & L: cheap but certainly not cheerful :S

Good luck, and a big pet for your dog :)

Thanks Lisa! (& jack lol)
Yeah, she is my baby! (her names Bella, a staff/mastiff cross)

I think i'm gonna go with M&S then.

Thanks everyone! x

Hi,I`ve got two cats and a dog.I had them insured with vet2pet but felt it was getting expensive.I`ve now got them insured with Halifax pet insurance and im paying less for all three than i was for just the dog.And yes,it is lifetime.
mine are m and s with zero excess and two 20 lots of antibiotics have already got my extra 1 a month back. I would not have been able to claim with direct line. Be careful not to get cought with one that only pays for 12 months for each condition as if it is ongoing treatment after a year you are pooped. Some do a 6000 for each condition and some do each condition for life. The vet said they never had probs getting money from m and s
