Can anyone help with this: Having a propensity for tilting at windmills. There are 8 letters and I've got 'Q?I?R?I? The only word I can come up with is Quit-rent which would mean the last I is wrong and think it's right. Also what would quit-rent have anything to do with the clue? Hope someone can help. 2) How a bow is prepared for playing or shooting. ?T?U??

2. Strung
what about Quintain?

Quick definitions (quintain)

(n.) An object to be tilted at; -- called also quintel.
Quixotic
Quintain is the answer, I think, which would mean that the R is wrong.

Quintain means "a post for tilting at"
But what about Cervantes's Don Quixote 'Tilting at Windmills' ?

Thank you so much for your quick replies. I've adjusted the wrong 'r' I really appreciate your help.
Having a propensity implies an adjective. And windmills, not just tilting. must be quixotic?
It's "Quixotic"
-- answer removed --
") is "Strung"
That's what I said AQ but Muffinbear disagreed and that is why I posed my question.

I didn't really disagree, although I agree it looks like we did - we posted at the same time (in fact when I started typing my response there was only the first response). I'll try and type faster next time :-)

I actually like your answer better than mine!

I've now gone for quixotic as i can't get the 't' of quintain to tally with the down clue.
Thanks again for all your help.
